Robot mowers have transformed how we maintain our lawns — quietly, systematically and without you lifting a finger. But one of the most common questions potential buyers ask is: how fast are they, really? Or put another way: how long will it take to cut my lawn?
In this post, we’ll answer that question using official data from the latest Segway Navimow robot mower range, and provide clear guidance to help you choose the right model for your needs.
A robot mower’s speed depends on several factors:
Cutting width — wider blades cover more ground per pass.
Battery capacity and mowing time per charge — more powerful batteries allow longer mowing sessions.
Navigation efficiency — smarter mowers follow systematic paths, not random patterns.
Obstacle avoidance — intelligent navigation avoids slowdowns.
Lawn conditions — slope, length of grass and obstacles can reduce effective speed.
The Segway Navimow range is designed for efficient, systematic mowing using RTK positioning and VisionFence technology, meaning it mows much faster and more predictably than older ‘random path’ mowers.
Segway’s published specifications include:
Recommended Mowing Area (the area the model is designed to maintain regularly)
Full Charge Mowing Time (how long it can mow on one charge)
Using this, we calculate average mowing speed as:
Mowing Speed (m2/min) = Recommended Mowing Area ÷ Full Charge Mowing Time (min)
This gives a practical view of how long it will take each model to mow its recommended area.
Model | Recommended Area (m²) | Mowing Time per Charge (min) | Average Speed (m²/min) | Time to Mow Full Area (hours:minutes) |
---|---|---|---|---|
Navimow X315 | 1500 | 120 | 12.5 | 2h 00m |
Navimow X330 | 3000 | 160 | 18.75 | 2h 40m |
Navimow X350 | 5000 | 200 | 25.0 | 3h 20m |
Navimow X390 | 10000 | 240 | 41.67 | 4h 00m |
Navimow i108 | 800 | 120 | 6.67 | 2h 00m |
Navimow H500-VF | 500 | 180 | 2.78 | 3h 00m |
Navimow H800-VF | 800 | 180 | 4.44 | 3h 00m |
Navimow H1500-VF | 1500 | 240 | 6.25 | 4h 00m |
Navimow H3000-VF | 3000 | 240 | 12.5 | 4h 00m |
The Navimow X Series is the fastest mowing range — ideal for larger lawns where time efficiency matters. The flagship X390 can mow up to 10,000 m² in just 4 hours.
The Navimow i Series is best for smaller gardens with moderate mowing speeds.
The Navimow H Series focuses on slope handling and advanced safety. It’s slower, but ideal for trickier garden layouts with gradients.
The mowing speeds shown assume ideal conditions. In real life, slopes, obstacles and taller grass may add 10–20% more time.
You can easily calculate the mowing speed — and estimated mowing time — for any brand of robot lawn mower, even if the manufacturer doesn’t publish it directly.
Here’s how:
You need two numbers from the product specs:
Recommended Mowing Area → often called “recommended area”, “maintainable area”, or “ideal area”
Full Charge Mowing Time → usually shown as “mowing time per charge” or “runtime”
Example:
Recommended Mowing Area: 1000 m²
Full Charge Mowing Time: 120 minutes
Mowing Speed (m2/min) = Recommended Mowing Area ÷ Full Charge Mowing Time (min)
Example calculation:
1000 m² ÷ 120 min = 8.33 m²/min
Now, if your lawn is smaller or larger than the recommended area, you can estimate the time:
Estimated Mowing Time (min) = Your Lawn Size (m²) ÷ Mowing Speed (m²/min)
Example:
Lawn size = 600 m²
Mowing Speed = 8.33 m²/min
600 ÷ 8.33 ≈ 72 minutes (about 1 hour and 12 minutes)
Because robot mowers work automatically, most owners set them to mow frequently — for example, every 2–3 days. This keeps the lawn looking perfectly maintained without needing to mow the full area in one sitting.
Example: If your mower can cut your lawn in 3 hours, you might set it to mow for 1 hour each day — keeping grass under control and extending battery life.
If mowing speed is a key factor for you:
✅ Small, simple garden → i Series or H500-VF / H800-VF
✅ Medium garden → X315 or X330
✅ Large garden / want the fastest possible mow → X350 or X390
Faster models naturally cost more, but they can cover more ground quickly — ideal if you have limited mowing windows or want to mow during daylight hours only.
Robot mowers have come a long way in recent years. Thanks to smart mapping and efficient cutting, Segway Navimow mowers can now handle even large lawns in a single afternoon.
If you choose a model suited to your garden size, you’ll enjoy a beautifully cut lawn with almost no time investment — and you’ll know exactly how long the robot will take to do the job.
